Summer here on the California coast is as busy and beautiful as ever. A lot has been changing in the last few weeks, and among those changes has been the adjustment of moving into a new bedroom—a room of my own! If you saw my last room tour, you’ll know that I’ve always been roommates with my sister. This is the first time I’ve ever had my own room, so it’s a pretty exciting turn of events to be able to wake up early and do yoga without worrying about waking anyone.
Even though it’s been a matter of weeks since I did my last room tour, I thought I’d do an updated version so you can take a look around this new space. And so that I can show it off.
Between shifts last week, I devoted my spare time entirely to moving into my new room. Emptying all the old furniture, repainting the walls and baseboards and trim, polishing windows, putting up fairy lights, all that good stuff. My mom found these lace curtains to put up over the windows—I only have two right now, but the other three are on the way.
My brother and I propped the dresser against the wall so it’s the first thing you see when you walk in the door. I decorated the top with a collection of candles, air freshener, and a little bottle of perfume. To the right I keep all my shoes, and I keep a couple yoga mats on the left. Behind the door, there’s a little hook for my purse.
Moving along to the windows, I got this nifty clothes rack where I can keep all my hanging clothes. Beside that, my nightstand is stocked with all the cozy things: my journal, the books I’m currently reading, a lovely-smelling lotion, and fuzzy slippers because the hardwood floor is cold and unfriendly in the early morning.
The bedspread is the same twin-size Shabby Chic floral situation that I had back in my dorm room a year ago. I’m on the hunt for a new bedframe, though, because the wooden one just doesn’t fit the bill.
This week, I ordered another bookshelf to match my first one, so now I can comfortably fit all my books beside the windows (…more on that later). Along the top, I’ve just scattered some random cute decor like roses, a globe, a stack of books I want to read soon, and a polaroid camera.
Moving into this new room, I was most excited about the prospect of having a desk again. I repainted this old desk of mine and tucked it in this corner, which is now my designated office space. I have a new NYC poster that I found at HomeGoods in Denver last month, so that will eventually make it up to the wall above the desk, after I found a frame for it.
Now my desk is all organized with highlighters, post-it notes, and my notebook collection. I like how simple this little corner is, because I can actually focus on whatever I’m working on. I finally have a place where I can sit down and write my story!
There you have it! I hope you enjoyed touring my room with me. I put together an updated “glimpse through my bookshelf” post that will be going live next Monday, so we can geek out about book collections together.
See you then!
