Happy Easter!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend of celebration and gathering with souls you love. Today I want to share with you a list of journal prompts inspired by the season of spring. Feel free to choose one or more to turn around in your mind as you let your thoughts spill out onto paper. Don’t filter or judge what you think — just pick up a pen and a notebook and begin writing whatever comes to mind.

As you begin, remember that spring is the time of waking up in life again. You have spent all of winter planting dreams and hopes and thoughts, and now you are growing again and becoming alive in the world, bursting into blossom like a flower. Make sure to sketch out whatever fancies and dreams come to mind when you write.

  • G.K. Chesterton once wrote that “There are no rules of architecture for a castle in the clouds.” With this quote in mind, design your ideal home. Where is it located — in the countryside or the city? A house, a mobile home, or an apartment (or a Batcave!)? What color scheme? What style of furniture? What is on display? What have you let go? Don’t pay attention to rules or expenses — allow yourself to dream.
  • Remember the song “Favorite Things” sung by Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music? Look up the lyrics … and then write your own, remembering all the tiny things that make you happy.
  • Spring is the time of florals … sketch a border of your favorite flowers (roses? sunflowers? tulips? daisies?) along the side of today’s page. If you let your mind wander enough, design your ideal garden — picket fence, climbing roses, and all.
  • If you could travel one place new every month for the next six months, where would you go? Pick out a location for every month and decide what you would see in the time you were there. Would you travel somewhere rural in the cool mountains? Or would you go to a tropical place and have exotic fruit for breakfast? Or would you prefer the hustle of a big city? The sky is the limit.
  • Create a ten step guide to cheering yourself up. What is needed to make you happy? Are you a person of simple wants, like a bouquet of flowers? Do you prefer a personal text from a friend? A kind smile from a stranger?
  • Who are your favorite literary characters? What movies/books are they from, and what traits in them do you most admire? Describe the scenes that made you fall in love with them.
  • Imagine a day in the life of yourself, on this day five years from now. Where are you living? What do you do every day? What are your weekends like? Who are your best friends? What are you looking forward to most in life?
  • Write a letter to someone you once knew that you still can’t forget. What impacted you most about them? What did he or she say to you that you remember so well? How did they treat you? Why did it matter?
  • Remember the “A Million Dreams” scene from The Greatest Showman movie? Think back to when you were a kid. What were your million dreams that colored your mind at night? What did you believe the future would look like?
  • Spring is the time of reawakening to the world and seeing all the tiny beauties around you. As you look around at your own life, make a list of small things that matter.

May your week be as full and bright as a blooming daffodil,
