Welcome to one of my favorite spaces in the world! My room—fondly dubbed as my “hobbit hole”— is cozy and full of my favorite things, like flowers and fuzzy blankets. Recently I did a proper room refresh—a new tapestry, some bookshelf reorganization, a fresh coat of paint for the closet—and I was so excited about it all, I decided to piece together an inside look for you. Come on in and I’ll show you around.

First things first, welcome to my room! I live at home, and share my upstairs bedroom with my awesome younger sister.  We collaborate on most of our decorating—by which I mean I’ll suggest a random idea while I’m doing yoga in the middle of the floor (“Hey, what if we did/moved/rearranged/decorated…”) and my sister will look up from her laptop and stare thoughtfully off in the middle distance and then add, “Yeah. Or we could even…” and so on, until we decide to start moving furniture around or putting up string lights.

Anyway. Let’s start this tour, shall we? The first thing you see when you walk in—the “centerpiece of the room,” if you will—is this summer sky tapestry, which I recently ordered from Society6. To balance it, I moved my world map tapestry to the other wall. For anyone who doesn’t know, Society6 is an awesome home decor website where artists are paid a percentage of every design that’s purchased (I’m not sponsored or anything, I just think they’re cool).

My nightstand is right next to the bed. In the bottom drawer, I tuck a sweater, a cardigan, a sweatshirt, and fuzzy socks. The top drawer is for my journal and Bible. I also keep chapstick and lotion within arm’s reach as well, along with whatever book I’m reading at the moment. Right now I’m working my way through the fifth installment of Sarah J. Maas’s Throne of Glass series, Empire of Storms.

Now for the closet. Last month, I decided to lighten it up with a coat of blue paint, like the sky. The mirrored vanity/dresser situation is where we store our bed linens, candles, cozy clothes, and makeup. The decor changes depending on my mood, but right now it’s a bouquet of blue hydrangeas and a globe. My blue yoga mat is hiding to the left.

My wardrobe is pretty simple—and yeah, that’s basically all the clothes I have right now. I love the concept of the capsule wardrobe, so when I buy clothes I only buy quality pieces that fit with my general aesthetic.

Above the hanging clothes, I keep my suitcase and a box full of off-season clothing. The lower shelf is where I tuck my bag (check out my recent “what’s in my bag” post) and a little storage box for all the miscellaneous, like notebooks and library books and etcetera (another shameless plug: check out “my notebook collection” post)

Meanwhile, this corner is my personal writing area. See all those books on the side? Originally those were all crammed into that poor little white bookshelf. The shelf wasn’t too happy with this arrangement, as you can imagine, so the other day I reorganized it all.

The shelf looks much lighter now, and more organized to boot. Classics on the bottom shelves. Poetry and nonfiction on the top left. Children’s fiction on the top right. All my novels—mostly fantasy and historical fiction—are chilling there on the right, where they will wait until I can afford another bookshelf. If you want an in-depth inventory of my book collection, you can check that awesomeness out too.

The top of the shelf is my wannabe “desk space” where I stow my laptop and personal planner. Cuteness is required, naturally, so there’s a bouquet of peonies, some lovely scented candles, and a polaroid camera for aesthetical purposes.

And one more detail: lighting! My sister and I strung up fairy lights around the top of our room. Our room is blessed with a lot of natural sunlight, but when it gets dark out, we illuminate our space with either the fairy lights or my nightstand lamp.

There you have it! The complete room tour, as of June 2019. Originally I planned on doing a morning routine along with this, but I think I’ll probably save that for an upcoming post because this one has gotten rather long. Thanks for joining me!
