Good morning! I’m writing this from my back porch, as I sip my morning cup of coffee. It’s a clear blue day—not a cloud in the sky. Birds are flitting across the sky, chirruping to one another, and already the day is warming up. In the spirit of summer, let’s grab our journals, go sit out in the sunshine, and let’s plan for June 2020.
Step One: Journal
As usual, first things first, I like to start with the “month-at-a-glance” page in my journal. Creating these pages is my favorite part of the planning process because it sets the visual tone for the month. I copied out the monthly spread, added a tiny vision board, penciled in a favorite quote, and sketched some butterflies. Et voila!
The next page is for a monthly overview. This is where I keep track of goals, intentions for the month, a playlist of current favorite songs, books you’re reading, and highlights of the month.
Step Two: Planner
When it comes to the more practical side of things, the planner’s monthly spread helps me keep track of specific deadlines, meetings, and commitments (blog posts, morning runs, project deadlines, etc).
For weekly spreads, here’s the simple system I’ve been using to keep up productivity every week:
- 3 projects per week. Each week, set three projects (or goals) that will be your focus for the week.
- 3 tasks per day: Every day, give yourself a list of three manageable things to achieve. For me, this is usually “write a blog post” or “write 1,500 words on my novel.” Aim for each of these tasks to take less than 90 minutes of focused work.
- Today’s win: there’s a saying among writers—”nulla dies sine linea,” which is Latin for “never a day without a line.” In life, this translates to doing one thing, every day, to get closer to your goals. Don’t underestimate the power of small steps to compound over time! Do one thing each day to make your future self proud.
Thanks for joining me as we plan for June 2020! I’ll catch you later,
<3 Olivia Grace
