I spend most of my weekdays in town, either at work or writing at coffee shops between shifts. During those days, I live out of this little black backpack—which, though deceptively small, is the perfect size for fitting all I need. If you’re in high school or college, you’ll obviously need a bigger bag for your books, laptop, snacks, etcetera. But for where I am this year, I’ve managed to narrow down my essentials to what fits neatly in this little backpack.
This particular backpack has two pouches. In the large pouch, I keep my sunglasses, eyeglasses, and my wallet. I also tuck in a little bottle of perfume, a tiny container of hand sanitizer, pepper spray, and (most essential of all) a tiny notebook and pen. Also a backup pen. And a backup for the backup pen. When inspiration strikes, you’d best have a writing utensil ready.
There’s also a handy little invisible pocket in the back of this large pouch, and that’s where I tuck away the unsightly things like pads or tissues.
My dark floral wallet is from Marshall’s, and it has little compartments for cash, cards, and coins. I usually keep some stamps in there too. Don’t ask me why. I just have them. In case of sending emergency postcards or something, maybe.
Now for the small front pocket. This is where I keep the things I need to grab quickly: car keys, lip balm, a spare hairband, and a container of breath mints and gum. It’s also very important to carry headphones at all times, in case of an emergency dose of music or the times when you need to listen to a podcast or audiobook on break between shifts.
Anyhow, that’s that! I usually pop the current book I’m reading in my backpack too, if I know I’ll have the chance to read at some point. I try to keep my things pretty simple, though.
Cheers,
